For the past few weeks I am running a clean installation of Ubuntu Linux Workstation version 20.04.1 LTS 64-bit on my Aspire A717-72G laptop.
Everything was working smoothly including the LG 34″ UC99-W Curved ultrawide IPS external display connected via HDMI on the build-in NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphical card.
Until today, while powering up the laptop I noticed that the external display remained black and was no longer working. The native laptop screen however did worked.
When running xrandr
only the internal screen was showing up and the HDMI was missing.
After reading many articles on this issue and trying several hints, tips and instructions I financially managed to get the external display back to life by running the following commands:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall
sudo apt autoremove
Once completed, all it took was a reboot in order to get the external display up and running again 🙂
